Navigation System/Autopilot Problems

The boat is equipped with a Garmin/Volvo Glass Bridge System with GHP Reactor Autopilot.
During our seatrials, we checked the operation of the autopilot and noticed that it was completely off correct magnetic heading. This resulted in the navigation system to head towards the wrong heading and cause the boat to move erratically when the autopilot is engaged.

Following some investigation, we have observed that the Garmin Reactor unit (see picture below) that was installed under the main helm dashboard by the factory was surrounded by components causing interference (ie AIS transponder, VHF unit etc).

The first 10 days or so past  trying to figure out if Garmin or Volvo would be handling the problem but both of them were throwing the ball to each other's court. Finally, Volvo decided to grab the bull by the horn and sent a cable extension kit so that the reactor could be relocated to the bilge area.

Once the kit was received, Princess technicians relocated the unit to the center bilge area then we went on a seatrial to calibrate the unit, which by the way we had to figure out how to. The issue finally got resolved although from time to time the compass still deviates and the boat goes off course. When this occurs, we recalibrate the compass and all seem to work fine back again.

During 22 days that we had to deal with this problem, not a single Garmin or Volvo service accepted to visit onboard to diagnose and possibly fix the issue. They preferred to give directions over the phone or by email but since it was the first time that Princess technicians were facing such an issue, they did not know what to do except disconnecting parts, pulling out cables and fiddling with the Garmin system interface trying to figure out what the issue might be. Consequently, an issue that would have easily fixed in a couple of days took 22 days to fix. During this time, we had no choice but to hand drive the boat and use an iPad for navigation.

We were actually quite surprized that such a critical function was oversighted during what Princess calls "Pre Delivery Inspections - PDI". We also know that the boat cruised from London to Southampton to Plymouth and it is again surprizing that this issue has not been spotted and fixed then.
Status: Fixed in 22 days

Magnetic Heading vs GPS Heading readings underway. The Magnetic heading is off by close to 180 degrees
Although the boat is heading NW, heading line shows close to N.

Garmin Remote Controller (GRID) Not Working

Our boat is fitted with Garmin GRID (Remote Control Keypad) on both main helm and flybridge. The one on the Main Helm was fully functional, but the one on the flybridge was not.
We believe this is due to the fact that the boat was always steered from main helm for seatrials etc. in the UK shipyard, therefore the flybridge station was not used thus tested/commissioned properly.
Princess has been informed multiple times about the matter.
Status: Pending since 03 May 2018
